Green Star Polyp

Green Star Polyp

Green Star Polyp(Pachyclavularia violacea) is an encrusting type coral that has bright green polyps or occasionally light brown or gray. It has a large bright center to each polyp and when the are retracted there are dark purple, tubular calcyes left projecting above the mat. A similar species, Briareum sp. will leave only calcyes only slightly projecting.

Star Polyps prefer strong, indirect lighting and strong current. Occasional blowing off of any accumulated detritus may be needed. This is an easy coral to care for. It will grow quickly and cover the substrate upon which it lives, covering everything in its' path. Filamentious algae can smother it, make sure there is no algae in the aquarium before you put in the green star polyps. This coral can overgrow stony, so avoid placing in areas where it can encrust them.
