Tube worms

Tube worm Feather Duster

Tube Worms or feather dusters are marine segmented worms that are sessile, attached to rocks or sand by their base. The plume of Tube Worms can measure up to 10" in diameter on some species. Tube Worms require excellent water quality and supplemental feeding with foods designed for filter-feeding invertebrates. Some times when a tube worm is new to an aquarium they will shed their plume when startled. After about a week or two they will emerge with a new plume that is smaller but will quickly grow to its prior size. To check to see if the worm is still alive gently squeeze the tube. You should feel the worm move, otherwise it is dead and should be discarded to keep from fouling the tank.
